Brushing your teeth should be important part of your daily dental care routine. There are few things to remember to keep your mouth and smile healthy:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with soft-bristled brush. The brush size and shape should fit your mouth and allow you to reach all areas easily.
- Replace your brush every 3- 4 months or if you notice bristles are frayed. Worn out toothbrush will not do a good job of cleaning.
- Use an ADA- accepted fluoride-based toothpaste.
What is the proper technique?
- Place toothbrush at 45-degree angle to the gums.
- Gently move the brush back and forth in short strokes.
- Brush outer surfaces, inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of teeth.
- To clean inside surface of front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up and down strokes.
Brushing your teeth is only part of your dental care routine. You should also make sure to do the following:
- Clean between teeth daily once a day. Tooth decay causing bacterial still linger between teeth. This helps remove plaque and food particles from between teeth and under the gum line.
- Eat a well-balanced diet that limits intake of sugary beverages and snacks.
